THAILAND

CHIANG MAI

August 1-13, 2022

Thailand was always one of the main places we wanted to visit on our trip. Our original plan was to spend an entire month there, split between Chiang Mai and the southern beaches. For various reasons, we ended up shifting our plans. This was meant to be our easiest and most relaxing destination—and it definitely felt like a break after the busy weeks prior. We had lots of massages, ate incredible food, slept, and spent time playing and unwinding. On top of that, the people in Thailand were incredibly kind, there were beautiful temples and historical sites everywhere, and the prices were remarkably low. I'm a thrifty person, so there's a special kind of relaxation that comes with affordable travel. Whenever we find ourselves in a place this inexpensive, we always try to have conversations with our kids about economic injustice and the shadow sides of tourism.
